One week
out to sea, on a ship, with 50 strangers, seems unbearable. But
it was the
total opposite. We got on the ship with hopes to succeed and
goals to achieve;
we left the ship with memories we'll never forget and dreams
we want to
hold on to.
Thirty-three
metres above the deck, for some it seemed a death trap, for
others,
nothing out of the ordinary. Those who climbed to the top of
the main mast,
read a message that was a key to the voyage. It was an eye
opening experience.
Those who didn't still attempted it and put themselves out
there.
There were many activities aboard the Leeuwin which challenged
us all. It
enabled students to see another view of life. We soon all realized
that we may not
come from the same backgrounds or share the same views but
we all worked
together to achieve a common goal, to sail. During this voyage
several students were able to experience a new leadership role; we
took over the ship. Captain– Fraser, navigator– Demi, engineer–
Rebeka, watch leaders– Nicki and Sharee and program facilitator–
Rosie.

I think
it's time we heard something from the students. Here are some
quotes about their
time aboard the Leeuwin:
"The Leeuwin was great!"- Rosie Oldham
"I was never sick."- Demi Corker
"It changed me!"- Nicki Bleechmore
"Cornflakes taste better the second time round, ha ha"- Fraser
Mead
"I was only sick, 27 times.."- Stephanie
Wright
"I was the queen of sunscreen!"- Sharee

The Leeuwin
would not have gone ahead without the help of our principal
Mrs.
Klaassen, Boyup Brook P and C, Boyup Brook Lions Club, the parents
and most of
all, Mrs Casserly. Thank you so much for making the week a
huge success!!
